Axe details

Dimensions: 7 X 22.5 inches

Axe head: Reclaimed copper 90% / Reclaimed aluminium 10%

Axe handle: Hand-made handles, using ash or birch (with 12 coats of pure linseed oil)

Axe neck: Hand coloured leather, with hand-stitching

Background: More bronze axes are found by archaeologists each year, although they don’t hold up like modern steel axes, they played a key part in military and cultural history. The axes made in the Freebird Forge are made from a pattern printed by a 3D printer, which I pack into a sand mold to pour the molten bronze into. Bronze pouring is an ancient art that includes both science and art. The science is pretty straightforward
